SCCG Making Waves ~ October 2026
NSW Coastal Conference
Shellharbour | 4–6 November 2026
SCCG staff will attend the NSW Coastal Conference and look forward to hearing the latest thinking on protecting and managing our coast. The program features seminars across a wide range of topics, including Coastal Management Programs, biodiversity, living shorelines and studies focused on specific coastal areas.
Our attendance will provide valuable insights to strengthen SCCG’s advocacy and expand our networks across Sydney and surrounding coastal areas.
Advocacy
Submission on Environment Protection Reform
SCCG recently made a submission to the Australian Government’s Environment Protection Reform consultation, supporting stronger landscape-scale planning through bioregional plans and strategic assessments. We emphasised the importance of recognising local government as a key partner, addressing cumulative impacts and climate resilience, protecting and restoring coastal ecosystems, using the best available environmental data, and maintaining meaningful community and council participation. You can find the submission HERE.
Submission on the Draft Coastal Management Manual
SCCG welcomes the opportunity to comment on the Draft NSW Coastal Management Manual. While supporting its focus on strategic planning, adaptive management and regional collaboration, our submission highlighted the need for dedicated funding for the governance and coordination of certified multi-council Coastal Management Programs and further work on the implementation framework and how that can assist in sustaining multi-council CMPs. Sustainable funding and implementation framework will be essential to turn regional planning into effective, long-term coastal outcomes. This submission is still in the draft stages and will be submitted by the 30th October.
