A win for SCCG advocacy on the NSW Beachwatch Program
The winners of the 2025 Local Government NSW Environment Symposium and Awards were announced at a special event in Western Sydney, celebrating leadership, innovation and commitment across the local government sector. The awards showcased 30 outstanding projects and individuals across 13 environmental categories, recognising initiatives that demonstrate strong rationale, ambitious objectives, best practice and tangible community benefit.
The SCCG was awarded Highly Commended in Division D of the Communication, Education and Empowerment category for our advocacy on the NSW Government’s Beachwatch Program. This recognition highlights the importance and impact of our ongoing work to champion long-term, state-led coastal water quality monitoring.
Our advocacy centred on ensuring the continuation and security of the NSW Beachwatch Program, which provides reliable, science-based coastal water quality information for councils, communities and decision-makers. By bringing together member councils, engaging with state agencies, and presenting a unified, evidence-driven case for sustained investment, the SCCG helped reinforce the critical role Beachwatch plays in safeguarding public health, environmental protection and coastal amenity.
We are proud to see this work acknowledged alongside so many exceptional projects from across NSW, and we congratulate all winners and nominees for their contribution to a healthier, more resilient environment.
