This privacy statement explains in general terms that, during its operations, the Sydney Coastal Councils Group Inc. (SCCG) collects personal information, as defined by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW) (PPIPA). It also outlines how personal information collected by the SCCG is used.

The SCCG receives personal information through a range of interactions and activities, including but not limited to project consultations, surveys, event and workshop registrations, newsletter subscriptions, submissions, feedback, requests, correspondence and other communications. Some personal information is required to meet governance obligations, while the provision of other information is voluntary.

Communications received by the SCCG (including associated personal information) are stored electronically in SCCG’s records management systems and other relevant databases. Personal information is accessed and used only by authorised SCCG staff and, where necessary, authorised consultants or agents engaged by the SCCG. This information is used to process communications received, deliver programs and projects, respond to enquiries, and maintain future contact with individuals.

Personal information is generally not disclosed to third parties unless authorised or required by law. However, information provided as part of community or stakeholder engagement processes may be considered to be in the public arena and may be subject to access under the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (NSW). In such cases, mobile telephone numbers and electronic addresses are generally withheld where possible.

The supply of personal information to the SCCG is often voluntary. However, if you choose not to provide requested information, the SCCG may be unable to process your communication or provide certain services or opportunities for engagement.

You may request that the SCCG suppress your personal information from public access or records where applicable. The SCCG will consider such requests in accordance with the PPIPA.

You may also request access to personal information held about you by the SCCG for the purpose of correcting or updating that information, unless an exemption applies under the Act.
