At European contact Bare Island was associated with the Gweagal and Kameygal Aboriginal groups and referred to by Captain Cook as a “small bare island”. Since those early times, the island has experienced a variety of uses and recognitions, from being a late nineteenth century coastal defence site, a veterans home, and site location for the film Mission Impossible 2.
Meet your National Parks and Wildlife Service Discovery Ranger across the footbridge where you’ll share the experiences of this nationally significant place.
Meet at the top of the path to Bare Island at La Perouse. Minimum age 8 years. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian. Maximum 20 people per tour.
