‘Dragons of Sydney’ for Summerama!

Title: ‘Dragons of Sydney’ for Summerama!
Location: Shelly Beach, Manly
To Book: Click here
Description: ‘Dragons of Sydney’ is a citizen science project investigating Eastern Water Dragons; impressive native lizards that occur near waterways in bushland and urban areas. Unlike many other reptile species which are on the decline, they appear to be coping well in urban landscapes – why is this?
At this event, you will have the opportunity to take part in a survey to help contribute to our understanding of the Eastern Water Dragons’ escape behaviour. For example, how close can humans get to them before they flee? This will hopefully shed some light on why Eastern Water Dragons have successfully thrived alongside humans as compared to other vertebrates. Upon sighting each dragon, you will also measure the ground temperature, canopy cover and record important observations about the immediate surroundings.
This is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors learning about
impacts of human activity and urbanisation
wildlife survey techniques
data collection
the importance of natural habitat

This event is suitable for adults and children aged 10+. All children under 18 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
