Summer Activities Program

Introduction

The Summer Activities Program was originally developed by Coastcare and is now an initiative of the SCCG. For the last 7 years the SCCG have annually facilitated the Summer Activities Program by collecting and collating information from the Member Councils about what activities they are running throughout the summer month of January (focusing around education of the coastal environment), and then collectively promoting the activities on the Councils behalf. Promotion has involved a brochure, information on the SCCG website and in the SCCG newsletters.

Aim and Objectives

The aim of the program is to coordinate and promote coastal educational activities organised by SCCG Member Councils and hopes to encourage local communities to enjoy the coast and to become involved in the protection, management and rehabilitation of coastal and estuarine environments.

Outcomes / Outputs

In recent years the number of people and events has grown considerably. On average over the last five years the number of events run has averaged around 65 with over 2000 people participating in the events each year.

This year, 2011, the program has been updated and is now called Summerama: Summer Activities Program, the coast comes alive this summer.
